40k Age of Sigmar Warscroll Compendiums

I've left this page up, but this blog has been moved to:

www.hivefleetcharybdis.wordpress.com

All future updates will be there.

This is the complete collection of unofficial 40k warscrolls for use in Warhammer: Age of Sigmar.  Battletomes include warscrolls for more or less every unit in the army, allegiance abilities, and points.  Warscroll Compendiums only have warscrolls and may be missing some of the less common units.  I will update this post as I improve the warscrolls and get feedback.

Astra Militarum Battletome V.0 - 11/9/17 (minor changes)

Chaos Astartes Battletome V.0 - 4/19/17 (transport update)
++  Nurgle Astartes (Death Guard) V.0 - 11/13/18 (NEW!)

Craftworld Battletome (Eldar) V.0 - 11/9/17 (minor changes)

Cult of Mars Battletome V.0 - 8/4/17 (added)

Greater Good Battletome (Tau) V.1 - 4/19/17 (transport update)

Harlequins Battletome V.0 - 11-9-17 (minor changes)

Imperium Astartes Battletome V.1 - 11/13/18 (minor changes)
++  Sanguine Astartes (Blood Angels) V.0 - 2/15/17 (flame weapon update)
++  Grey Knights V.0 - 4/27/17 (added Stormraven)
++  Fenryka (Space Wolves) V.0 - 10/14/17 (added Wolf Guard and Dreadnoughts)
++  Unforgiven (Dark Angels) V.0 - 11/13/18 (NEW!)

Imperium Battletome V.0 - 6/26/19 (added Blackstone Fortress and Rogue Trader)

Kabalites Battletome (Dark Eldar) V.0 - 11/9/17 (minor changes)

Necrontyr Battletome V.0 - 4/27/17 (edited Ghost Ark)
(special thanks to commenter/contributor Momchil Dilov)

Sororitas Battletome V.0 - 11/9/17 (minor changes)

Space Orkz Battletome V.0 - 4/19/17 (added Flyers and new warbuggies, also minor changes)

Tyranids Battletome V.1 - 4/19/17 (transport update)
++  Broodkin (Genestealer Cults) V.0 - 4/27/17 (minor changes, added Goliath Trucks)

Age of 40k Supplement - 10/27/16 (a one page set of optional rules including a Vehicle Damage Table, Flyer rules, and Mysterious Objectives)

A few notes regarding these documents:

1) Version 0 compendiums have not yet been field tested.  If you do test them out and feel like leaving me feedback so I can fix mistakes and re-balance if necessary, please leave me a comment, I'd love to hear how they're doing.

2) I'm sure these are riddled with typos.  I do my best, but I'll still probably forget to mention that a unit has Combat Blades or accidentally refer to Scything Talons as Rending Claws or something.  Feel free to leave a comment if you find something like that.

3) If you decide to print these, I recommend doing them four to a page in landscape, it makes nice little warscrolls that are pretty convenient for use during battle.

4) This is solely a not-for-profit fan activity and in no way intends to infringe on copyrights held by Games Workshop (only to have fun with their awesome stories and models!).

  1. i am loving what you have done so far... looking forward to playing this weekend using the compendiums so far (marines vs nids)
    one thing i have noticed is the lack of a sniper rifle for scouts?
    just a thought... range 48 attacks 1 to hit 3+ to wound 3+ rend -3 damage 1 ?

  2. I absolutely love what you're doing here. I wonder though, if a generic heavy weapon that counts as a heavy bolted shouldn't have an additional attack to reflect the rapid-fire nature of it? Otherwise, if the only difference between them is that the MM has a bonus vs vehicles, it makes no sense not to bring a multimelta to take down a mob of grots (in case you have the opportunity to shoot at a killa kan)

    1. Thanks! I like your idea. As of this moment, the key difference is that the Heavy Bolter is affected by the Captain's Bolter Drill (re-roll to hit with bolters) command ability while other heavy weapons aren't, but I'll make a note to take a look at it for the next version.

    2. I cant wait to give them a try. I tried the space marines at the local GW Thursday. Everyone there was excited. The only things we thought about changing was the terminator save (+3) and the dreadnought heavy weapon attack (3 attacks instead of 2).

      Delete
    3. For the terminators : maybe going back the the 2nd edition rules for them is a good option? IE : a 3+ armor save on 2D6. Easy to implement, simple and fluff.

      Delete
    4. In general, I try to stay away from 3+ saves on multi-model units because of how easily a 3+ save can become a 1+ save. Plus Terminators are a lot like Retributors, so GW showed the way forward on that one pretty well.

      Delete
    5. Why not make their save an unmodifiable +3, and explain that as being 'as protected as it gets'? It would also make sense from the fluff, as Termies are meant to be really hard to kill. Otherwise, you could give them mortal wound immunity or a +4 unmodifiable save

  4. I talked to the maker of the Age of Sigmar PPC Comp, and he said that if you want he would try to put points costs on these in the future. I don't know if you plan to do this yourself, but I think it's a good idea.

  12. Astra Militarum bugfixes:
    - Sentinels have the wrong keyword: "Ratling Snipers"; also "Improved Drive Train" - isn't it more proper to be "Training"?
    - Bullgryns - is the Bone 'Ead supposed to make an extra attack only with his knuckles or also with the power maul if the unit has those instead of the grenade gauntlets?
    - Artillery Tank - the Las special rule has no effect on the main cannon since it already has Rend -2 - is this on purpose?
    - Command Squad - is it supposed to be only "Infantry Squad" in its keywords or should it have also "Command Squad"?

    General Suggestion - Imperial Commissar
    - the Blam! Heresy rule could decimate my low-count units - shouldn't it work like in the current rules, killing only one model?
    - could I retain my refractor field in some way and still have an invulnerable-like save for this duder so I can pitch him against the bigger melee threats with high Rend and use his power fist?

    1. I'm not planning on it just because Long Fangs, Grey Hunters, and Blood Claws are virtually identical to Devastators, Tactical Marines, and Assault Marines (sans jump packs). You can also use the Imperium Astartes warscrolls in a pure Fenryka army because of the Imperium Astartes Battle Trait.

  16. Is there a reason you didnt use a new force org structure?
    HQ, Troop, Elite, Fast Attack, Heavy Support

    Pitched 1000pts
    HQ 1 - 2
    Troop 2+
    Elite 0 - 2
    Fast Attack 0 - 2
    Heavy Support 0 - 2

    Pitched 2000pts
    HQ 1 - 4
    Troop 2+
    Elite 0 - 4
    Fast Attack 0 - 4
    Heavy Support 0 - 4

    Pitched 2500pts
    HQ 1 - 6
    Troop 2+
    Elite 0 - 6
    Fast Attack 0 - 6
    Heavy Support 0 - 6

    I think this still captures the flavor and feel of 40k, but still allows for armies to be varied.

    Either way this is an awesome set of dataslates and I appreciate the work you ahve done.

  19. Duncan, this is incredible stuff! I just discovered it recently, but have been playing with the idea for a while now. Are you on Twitter? I'm sharing your work with the community on there, and trying to get more traction and play testing for the idea of playing 30K/40K with the much simpler/easier AoS rules. Keep up the great work!

    P.S. Have you thought of using the "degrading effectiveness" model AoS uses for Monsters with vehicles in 40K? I think that would add an incredible new dynamic without adding much complexity.

  22. So just played a game of space marines verses stormcast eternal. Personally I feel for these to work against a sigmar army the bolters need to be a 3 to hit 3 to wound. Also may have just been unlucky but the scout sniper should be d3 damage.

    But these rules and scrolls are awesome. And brings new life to my old 40k models. So thank you.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I really appreciate the feedback, I'll keep it in mind for the next revision of the marine warscrolls. The Space Marine warscrolls are designed to be pretty comparable to Stormcasts, with Tactical Marines being statistically very similar to Judicators. I'll take another look at the math for these units.

      Glad to hear you're enjoying them!

  23. Hi there, just wanted to say thank you so much for your hard work and the AWESOME result! I stopped playing 40k after 2nd Ed but this has made me start to paint up a new force! I also second the above comment - decreasing effectiveness tables for vehicles would be even better IMHO. Keep up the great work.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'm glad you like them. I keep hearing about damage tables for vehicles, so that may need to be implemented in my next pass at things. In the meantime, check out the Age of 40k rules page. It has a vehicle damage table that may be of interest to you.

      Delete
    2. Well, the vehicle damage table is 'back to the book-keeping' feature,me thinks. An inherited ability to be stunned for a round is enough. Metaphor-wise there is NO reason why I can chop off the leg of a dreadnought but can't do so with a wraithlord.

      Delete
    3. I generally agree. One of my major hesitations with adding damage tables to Vehicle warscrolls is deciding what is and is not a "Vehicle" for those purposes. The Vehicle warscrolls range from Warbikerz to Land Raiders to Monoliths. So far I've followed GW's lead and just put damage tables on most everything with more than about 10 wounds. My hope with the Age of 40k "Vehicle Damage Table" is that players choose what should get immobilized/weapon destroyed/etc. on their own recognizance.

  24. I am really impressed with all the effort you have put into those. Excellent work.

    1. Thanks. Nice work yourself on the Brayherds Alleigance abilities (I assume there can't be that many PraetorDragoons around).

  25. I'm really looking forward to trying these but just wanted to check if there was a supplementary rule which allows players to return attacks in the Shooting phase (like the GW rules for melee combat where you each attack consecutively)? To me it would make sense but I can't see it and just wondered if you'd played like that or if I'm just missing it? Thoughts appreciated!

    And also to reiterate what has been said above about a fantastic amount of effort you've put in to these! Thanks!

    Replies
    1. Glad you like them. I haven't tried playing like that at all. It sounds kind of like an Infinity angle. At the moment, the units are "balanced" around the idea that shooting happens only on your turn while melee happens on both players' turns. If you try something like this though, I'd certainly be interested in hearing how it goes.

  26. Thank you for this work. I'm looking for a simple system to play 40k models, but without 40k rules.
    I'm currently translating it in French for my own usage (for my kids).
    I have a question : The terminators haven't Deep Strike rule. Is there a reason ?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Since so many different units are able to Deep Strike in 40k (Terminators, everything with a jump pack, land raiders sometimes) I figured I would leave that out for the moment. I will probably bring it in in the form of Warscroll Battalions, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

  30. This is awesome. I think I might try to get some people to try them out.

    Just a little nitpick of mine; Why are necron warriors such wimps? Like seriously, they aren't even as good as a space marine scout in these scrolls. They should at least have the same stats as a marine. 1 wound, 5+ save, move 4"? that's horrible.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. They are very very strong : 80pts for 10 to 20 necrons.
      160pts for 5 to 10space marine.
      So, for the same points cost, you've 4x more necrons than space marines.
      And when you kill them in melee, the disruption fields can kill the attacking unit : for each model slain, one mortal wound on 6+

      With "The Awakening" + "Great Reanimator", you can add one unit of 10 necrons on each round.

      And with "Reanimation Protocoles" then come back again, and again, and again.

      They are very very string. Too string i thing.

      Delete
    2. "strong"* (not string). Scuse me for my poor english.

      Delete
    3. In Age of Sigmar, there is a big distinction between 1 wound and 2 wound infantry (unlike 40k where 2 wound infantry are very uncommon). In looking at how best to serve each unit, Immortals seemed more like the "marine-equivalents" while Necron Warriors are the rank & file.

      Delete
  31. Hello. First test this Week-End with my kids. Very small battle Dark Angels vs Necrons with the min unit sizes.

    I played :
    - 1 Chapter Master 100pts
    - 1*5 Tactical Marines 160pts
    - 1*5 Terminators 220pts
    - 1*3 Bike Marines 180pts
    Total : 660 pts.

    My son :
    - 1 Overlord 100pts
    - 2*10 Necron Warriors 2*80pts
    - 1*5 LychGuards 80pts
    - 1 Triarch Stalker 160pts
    Total 500 pts.

    With 500pts of Necron against 660pts of DA he ruined med ! :D

    He choosed "Great Reanimator" for his Overlord.
    First round : he won initiative, rolled 9+1 = 10 on "The Awakening" and placed a new unit of 10 Necron Warriors à 18" of his overlord.

    The second round : he bringed back another unit of 10 Necrons warriors...

    The third round : he bringed back another unit...

    Each Shooting phase was a slaughter.
    The combat phase was delicate too... because of disruption fields, i lost tactical marines on mortal wounds caused by mecron disruption fields.

    We'll try other battles. Perhaps we'll :
    - reduce the strength of "The Awakening" ?
    - increase the point cost of Necron Warriors (or give them Save 6+ instead of 5+).
    - put 10 marines in the unit instead of 5 (for 160pts).

    Or re-re-read the rules to better understand them. Perhaps i missed something.

    None the less it was very pleasant. My kids was very happy : he was waiting since christmas to play his necrons, but was discouraged by 40k's rules complexity. He nerver played AoS before but learned the rules very quickly and now we can battle in the 41th millenium thanks to you !!

    1. I'm glad you guys had fun with it (even if it was one sided). I don't even play with points myself, so I am confident that my points values are pretty off. Taking another look at Necron Warriors, they should probably be more like 120 points for what they are (Skeleton Archers are 100 points for 10 models, and aren't nearly as fancy).
      Thanks for the feedback!

  34. Dude you are seriously my hero. I'm in the process of trying to teach my family to play Warhammer... but as you can imagine, flopping the 40k rulebook on the table, even the little no fluff one from the Dark Vengeance box set, made EVERYONE just go, 'I mean... can't we order pizza and just watch some netflix?'

    With that said... Age of Sigmar opened the door. I got the starter set for that as well and took the four page rulebook to the table. A lot more people were willing to accept four pages haha. But with Age of Sigmar I was able to explain the game to my 5 yr old. While he isn't allowed to move the models himself... he gets the idea of what's going on and I just present him with his options. 'Hey... your general can do X or Y, which one you want them to do?' Him: 'Umm.. I'm going to have my shooty guys do some shooting so I want the one so I can re-roll misses!'

    So long story short... If I can teach it to a 5 yr old... I can get ANYONE up and playing in like... 20 minutes. Which is great for Age of Sigmar but lets be real... 40k is what everyone wants to play... tanks... jets... guns... aliens... All of the yes. Your war scrolls let us a play our first game with the Dark Vengeance starter set and it was a very balanced game... like came down to a half a turn away from someone winning via the 'hold out' sudden death condition.

    Just wanted to say you're awesome, keep up the good work and I'm with Anthony up there, I'm seriously considering some Start Collecting Boxes for 40k because we can play it now!

    2. After revisiting the Blood Angels characters, I feel like:
      Corbulo = Sanguinary Priest
      Mephison = Librarian
      Dante = Chapter Master
      Sanguinor = Sanguinor
      Astorath = Chaplain
      Tycho = Captain
      Lemartes = Chaplain
      Gabriel Seth = Chapter Master

      As a very nearly codex compliant chapter, they just don't have that much stuff that stands out as different. The only reason the Wolf Lord warscroll exists (for example) is so that they can ride a Thunderwolf. If you have any specific requests I'd be happy to make them, but I think Blood Angels are already well served by existing warscrolls (from an AoS Compendium perspective).

  40. If you have time please could you add grey hunters and an iron priest to the Fenryka. Don't worry if not.
    Thanks

    1. My original thought was that Grey Hunters would be well represented by the Tactical Marines warscroll, and Iron Priest by Techmarine. I couldn't identify the secret ingredient that made them substantially different. That said, I'm definitely open to suggestions, and can certainly see the value in Iron Priest if only so that they can ride a Thunderwolf :)

  41. Any chance for death guard warscrolls? Just started playing 40k with the dark imperium box set and would like to try AoS when v2.0 comes out with them. I bought mortarion because I love, love DG and want to try him out especially, but I'm terrible at balancing things like this.

  43. just first look at the war scrolls - maybe the range of heavy weapon should be a bit reduced? 36' is enormous distance even if it is only one attack with D3 dmg

    1. It is a long way, but it's really a bit shorter than the 48" that most heavy weapons in 40k are. I have been considering reducing ranges on nearly everything, but that will be a pretty major project so I want to be sure first.

  44. Duncan have you considered doing vehicles in the same way as a AoS Giant Warscroll? Where as the vehicle takes damage it has diminishing movement, firepower, knocked out weapons etc?

    1. Hi Rick, I have considered it. At the moment I'm using the AoS style of degrading stats only for "centerpiece" models (Land Raiders, Gorkanauts, Tervigons, etc). In 8th edition 40k, they made all vehicles degrade, but I'm not sure I want to take the leap. I've definitely got it on the ideas list though. You may want to take a look at the "Age of 40k Supplement" linked above as it brings in Vehicle damage along with some other 40k specific mechanics. Enjoy!

  46. For Imperial Guard would you be able to add the las pistol and sword onto the infrantry sqaud warscroll for the officer? Also could you create a conscript warscoll?

    1. Hi, thanks for the feedback, I'll take a look at it :) What (in your opinion) makes Conscripts special?

    2. Duncan

      Hey thanks for replying and I'm sorry it's taken this long to reply. I want to do the battle of The Last Stand at Glazer's Creek which is Imperial Guard against Orks. Instead of 40K Orks I want to use Savage Orcs from AoS and these rules are exactly what I was looking for.

      Regarding Conscripts the battle calls for them in the IG Force and it would be awesome if I had rules for Conscripts. I could just adjust the numbers of the imperial guard but I am a completest and would prefer rules by you!

    3. I hope your "historical" battle goes well! That sounds really cool. I've made warscrolls for Conscripts as well as the requested equipment for the Infantry Sergeant. They're not in the pdf downloads yet, but you can find them in today's post. Enjoy!
