40k Warscrolls: Space Ork Flyers

Space Orkz have now been updated to include the new Speed Freek units as well as Flyers!  All of these warscrolls are now up for download at the 40k warscrolls page.  My favorite of the flyers is the Wazbom Blastajet, because it's ridiculous.  I had my own take on it adding the Kustom Job rule that lets you choose what type of preposterous upgrades the Big Mek has made.  Kustom Force Field may be the smart choice, but who could say no to the amazing Ramming Prow?!

40k Warscrolls: Speed Freekz

Space Orkz got a bunch of exciting new models recently, so I figured it was time to update the Space Orkz battletome!  Speed Freekz are now a sub-faction of Space Orkz.  They've got their own leader in the Deffkilla' Wartrike, six battleline units (Warbuggies, Warbikerz, and all the new buggies), and can also bring Battlewagons.

Battletome: Space Orkz

On Monday, I updated the Space Orkz (along with Imperium Astartes) to a new Battletome style!

Looted Wagon

I've been working on completing warscrolls for (at a minimum) every unit that GW produces in each army, along with a few other oldies that catch my fancy (like the Mycetic Spore).  Today, I want to show off a unit that was always one of my favorites, the Looted Wagon.  Though the Lootas can go joyriding in/on/around other armies' vehicles during the game, this warscroll is representative of a vehicle that has been in Orky hands for somewhat longer, so certain "modifications" have been made.

40k Age of Sigmar: Space Orks

I've finished my first pass at Space Orks warscrolls.  I haven't gotten a chance to playtest them yet, but I have certainly mathed them and determined that at least on paper they should be about right.  I'd like to share some of my favorites, but you can find the full document here.

The Big Gunz were fun because the weapons are kinda flavorful (especially the Zzap Gun, which has always been near and dear to my heart).  While most of the Space Ork warscrolls use the "Space Orkz" keyword making them a distinct Orruk faction, I gave the Grot warscrolls the Gitmob keyword.  This sets them apart slightly from the rest of the Space Orks and also gives them synergy with fantasy common goblins.  This leaves them open for inclusion in some sort of Rebel Grot force or whathaveyou.  In fact, the astute might notice that the Lobba is actually the same as the 'Goblin Rock Lobber' from the Orcs & Goblins pdf.  Last mention about the grots is that I put Orc Bully abilities on their warscrolls.  I imagine that any Runtherd from your old Gretchin squads could easily become an Orc Bully, which I did not reproduce the warscroll for, but is of course available from GW.

I haven't put the finishing touches on the Battlewagon yet ("monsters" take a long time to math), but we've got a Trukk warscroll.  Ramshackle was an odd duck because I wanted to capture the theme of it without making some D6 table to roll on or other such madness.  I ended up having it keep moving after being destroyed to capture the vibe of it falling apart around the occupants/careening around the battlefield before exploding.

I hope you enjoy the Space Orkz, and don't forget to bring the Orc Bullies!

40k Age of Sigmar: Lootas

Here are the Lootas in their current incarnation.  One thing I've been thinking about as I make each warscroll is not only what each unit has done in the past, but what everybody (I don't think it's just me) has always wished they would do.  This bring us to the far right ability on their scroll here... "Lootas".  Will it come up often?  No.  Will it be hilarious when it does?  I hope so.

40k Age of Sigmar: Burna Boyz

My next 40k AoS project is Orks.  It's a little slower going since they have a lot of diverse weaponry and different flavor from unit to unit.  I thought I'd share a warscroll to show how it's going.  At their core, the Burna Boyz are basically the pre-existing fantasy orcs warscroll with different equipment options (which is really what a lot of this will be).  I wanted high overlap and consistency between fantasy and 40k orks since it makes a lot of sense thematically to interplay them.

They have pretty non-traditional weaponry.  The Kustom Mega Blasta of course had to be super silly (as is the Shokk Attack Gun I'm working on).  I ended up giving the Burna Boyz, Shoota Boyz, and so forth Cuttas as seen on the Arrer Boyz warscroll for Orcs and Goblins for their melee weapons.  I also lifted the Mob Rule ability from pre-existing orky warscrolls, although I'm not sure whether or not I'll keep it.

I've decided to use the Space Orkz keyword for most of the units and the Speed Freeks keyword for buggies, bikes, vehicles, etc.  I also have the Boyz keyword on here, which I was originally going to use to create a series of warscrolls that could form up into units however you pleased, but I've ended up scrapping that idea.  I'll probably end up keeping the Boyz keyword and using it for something, I just don't know what quite yet.

I told you I'd tell you how I made a deff rolla

Unfortunately I didn't get any 'before' pics of the deff rolla because my wife had her camera (the nerve). But here's a pic of it finished and attached.
And I'll explain how that was made. You can use any cylinder of the appropriate size (I used two empty citade wash pots glued together). I wrapped some plasticard (in my case harvested from a hard card protector) around the cylinder after scoring and folding it so it would have those hard corners. The spikes are made by cutting a chunk of empty sprue into a squat pyramid. I cut a ton of said pyramids, glued them onto the rolla, and then glued a bit of sand around each one. The mounting for the rolla was made by cutting some more plasticard into the appropriate shape. I also glued some ancient rhino hatches on the sides to give it some depth. Overall, pretty easy.
I used a lot of plasticard in making this piece, but I'm too poor to afford plasticard at the moment and I improvised a lot. Here's a list of places from which to harvest plasticard:

Used gift cards/membership cards/credit card offers
Hard card protectors
Empty milk cartons
Medicine containers
Over-packaged toys

Also, cardboard will work for a lot of the same things as plasticard. The core of my battlewagon is thin corrugated cardboard. Here's some more pics of my mostly finished battlewagon cuz that's how I roll.

Battlewagon

So I got busy with school and forgot to post last week, but here's what I've been working on lately.
So what I've done here is take the current Ork Battlewagon kit and place it on top of a land raider chassis. The Land Raider had already been modified by its previous owner (and was in pretty bad condition, the spots where you can see plastic on the land raider are mostly covered in glue or carved up pretty badly... but it was free, so). The Land Raider chassis is not actually wide enough to house a Battlewagon, so I ripped the treads apart from the hull and made a new hull by cutting out a rectangle of cardboard to the correct width to support the battlewagon and wrapping it around the places where the hull would have been.
To cover the areas that were sick with glue or carved up, I spread some superglue thinly across the afflicted areas and then stuck some sand to them (as you'll see later).
You can see where that streak of superglue was dribbled down the side, now it's grime and grit!
Ah, and since I'm here anyways, I thought I'd talk about the new weathering pattern I tried on this tank. What I did was use an old frayed paintbrush to apply chaos black in a ragged pattern along the worn edges of the vehicle, and then used to same to a lesser extent to put on boltgun metal and or mithril silver.
I also want to show off my magnetized big shootas (so I can change the weaponry later if need be) but my wife apparently has her camera today, so I'll do that next week. Also, I'll show at some point how I'm making the deff-rolla for this thing.

Weathering Orks

So I started an Orks army. It's been coming together nicely so far. I just wanted to talk for a minute about weathering. I've tried a couple of different weathering techniques with these guys so far and I'll tell you which one I like best.

First:
For this one, I made some battle damage on the front plate with a modelling knife, then basecoated with scab red. Then I brought all of the non damaged parts up with blood red leaving scab red around the bullet holes. Then I just painted the bullet holes with boltgun metal. The mud on the front was done by super gluing sand all over the front of the buggy.

Second:
This time, after painting the whole tank with mechrite followed by blood red, I applied chaos black to the hard edges using a torn up piece of blister foam. Then I applied boltgun metal via the same method. I like this method better than the first and it is reeeally easy to do, but I think it looks a bit sloppy, so while it's not a bad method, I don't think I'll be using it again (although maybe I'll decide otherwise).

Third:
This time, after painting the wheel well with fancy flames, I simply painted on some chipped looking boltgun metal. This doesn't look very good at first, but after washing the model (I use devlan mud or gryphon sepia, I like to change it up from model to model) the boltgun metal kind of pops and looks nice. I like this method of weathering best of the ones I've tried so far. I've been using it on boyz shoulderpads, here's a nob I used it on.
Anyhow, the third method is pretty easy and I think looks pretty good, just make sure to give the model the wash as it improves the look greatly.
