Coalescence 2017: War of the Ring

Welcome to the informational blog post about Coalescence 2017: War of the Ring.

What will I need?

- You will need a 1500 point army that meets the Vanguard requirements, and matched play requirements.  This means that it must include 1-4 Heroes, 2+ Battleline, 0-2 Behemoths, and 0-2 Artillery.  Additionally, your general must be a Hero.

- Your army list may include Artefacts, Command Traits, Spells, etc. as described in your Allegiance rules.  These are not randomized and should be selected and assigned as part of the list.

- You will need a 1000 point list that has the same general as your 1500 point list, and includes only models that appear in the 1500 point list.  Units may be rearranged as you see fit (split, combined, removed, resized, etc.), as may Artefacts, Spells, and so forth.  Your 1000 point list does not need to meet the Vanguard requirements.

- You will need a 500 point list that has the same general as your 1500 point list, and includes only models that appear in the 1500 point list.  Units may be rearranged as you see fit, as may Artefacts, Spells, and so forth.  Your 500 points list does not need to meet the Vanguard requirements.

- Your 3 army lists do not have to declare the same allegiance!  If you want to play Order in Round 1 and then pare down to Stormcasts for Rounds 2 and 3, that's just fine by me as long as all those Stormcasts are in your 1500 point force.

- You will need to bring a printed copy of the Player Pack.  Please read it ahead of time so that you are familiar with the scenarios and the achievements.

- You will need to bring a printed (or very legibly written) copy of your three army lists.

Rules FAQ

- I will be handing out Triumph cards during the event.  We will not be using the Matched Play Triumphs table.  Instead, each player may use one Triumph card during each battle.  You can also save Triumph cards for use at any future events run by me!

- All ranges will be measured from the models; this includes the base as part of the model.

- Bonuses with the same name do not stack (I'm looking at you Mystic Shield, also Portal of Skulls).

Event FAQ

- Is there a lunch break?  No, but there is plenty of time between rounds to grab a quick bite if you play expediently.

- Can I represent a Grand Alliance that isn't technically the one I'm playing?  If you must.  Just make sure to let me know so that there's no confusion.

- Is there a prize?  Narrative prizes will be awarded in the form of Triumph Cards that can be used at future Age of Sigmar events that I run.  There will be Triumph Cards awarded to players with fully painted armies at the start of the event, and Triumph Cards awarded after each round.

- Do we really have to follow matched play rules (i.e. Battleline, Allegiance, etc)?  If you would like to ask for specific special dispensations, we can probably figure something out.  So head over to the Facebook event page and hit me up, or post in the comments here if you'd prefer.
  • If you have concerns about being able to make a legal 1500 pt Vanguard army list, either by virtue of not having enough points, or not having enough Battleline, or whatever, let me know and I will make sure we have an opponent lined up for you in Round 1.

  1. Glad to see 500 pts doesn't need to meet the battleline requirements! Hoping to make it with my aelves, but with the way work has been I'm not holding my breath.

    1. Yeah, after looking over things and talking to some people, I figured it would be better this way. I hope you're able to make it!

  2. How upsetting would it be if I ran three War Machines (2 Frigates and a Gunhauler)?

    1. Sorry, War Machine was a typo, it's been fixed to "Artillery". You should be fine, it looks like Frigates are Behemoths (0-2), and the Gunhauler is Artillery (0-2).
