Shadespire: Slaugrik's Exiles

Slaugrik detested this place.  It disgusted him and left him unsettled.  A city of death went against everything the new god stood for.  It was static and cold, rather than caught in an endless cycle of death and rebith.  He never thought he would, but tonight, he wished for the corrosive skies of his homeport, Barak Thag.

For countless years they had plied the clouds of rust and smoke, unfairly banished by the other skyports.  However, their fortunes had changed of late.  In that toxic sky-sea, lungs full of heavy metals, they found a new god; one that hadn't forsaken them.  Khazglug was the first to start to change.  The hair fell from his scalp and some of his teeth loosened and came out.

His skin swelled until it was blotched with red and purple, and yellow buboes began to appear on his head.  And it wasn't just him, the others began to take an unhealthy red aspect.

They prayed to the new god for a cure to the metal sickness and he sent them here, searching for life in the city of the dead.

Once they find a cure, they can take it back to Barak Thag, perhaps there is still time to save them.

On a non-narrative note, I feel like I'm starting to develop my aos28 style of experimenting with texture and lighting on my models.  These guys were largely painted using Astrogranite, Leadbelcher, Nihilakh Oxide, and Runefang Steel.  I tried out some different washes in different places add depth and different tones corrosion.  Also, I stumbled upon a pretty cool warpstone look I think by drybrushing grey up to white, then putting on Biel-Tan Green wash, and Nurgle's Rot (for the crystals on the bases).

And lastly, here's a bonus WIP pic (I hadn't switched out the skypike yet though).
