AoS Game Day: The Treasure of Thindrongol Nuk

For something completely different, in July we had a skirmish(ish) Game Day.

"When the Necroquake rocked Efengie, it disrupted the Penumbral Engine concealing one of Sigmar’s Stormvaults; a sprawling subterranean duardin labyrinth with a single inscription over its gateway, “Thindrongol Nuk”.  A few days ago, a bandit hiding out in the Painted Spires stumbled upon the vault.  Although she returned to Reaper with the intention of gathering a crew, word travels fast in Efengie."

AnimosityI

Last weekend I ran one of the many Animosity events that took place around the world.  You can read up on it at www.animositycampaigns.com if you're interested in learning more, but I'll review some of its interesting facets below!

The Soulless Seas pt. 4

Last weekend, I ran A Storm on the Soulless Seas, the climax of Game Day Season 5.  We had a lot of fun and learned a few things about my homebrew naval battle rules.

Efengie Campaign: The Dawning of a New Age (of Sigmar)

The fifth season of the Efengie Campaign has begun!  In the past, players have told me that they'd like to see a continuation of the Efengie storyline (rather than expand to other mortal realms), so I figured I'd expand by taking a look at the larger world around Eucebium.  In the first Game Day of season 5, Eucebium has been dragged into a long-raging war between the neighboring regions of Kytos and Lamellia!

Efengie Campaign: Hallowed Portents

Last weekend I ran the penultimate Game Day of Efengie Season 4: Malign Portents!  We had a pretty excellent turnout, although not much army diversity.  Strangely, Seraphon have been on the rise in Efengie.  We had 3 Sseraphon players, 2 Legions of Nagash, Slaanesh, Stormcasts, and Troggoths!

Efengie Campaign: Return to Fort S'nak

With Iradrüll taking the throne to rule the Vale of Efengie from Fort S'nak, the powers that be decided to put her reign to the test.  Lady Vendetta had been biding her time at Pigstikka Peak surrounded by disgusting orruks and grots, so she was prepared to bring the pain.  In the picture below, Lady Vendetta and her giantess Galagar used their hammers (i.e. the Batter siege tactic) to knock down some walls!

Efengie Campaign: The Reckoning of Iradrüll

Last weekend I ran a Malign Sorcery themed event.  I also used a new army balancing mechanic that some of you might be familiar with... POINTS!

Coalescence: Desolation of Eristrat

On Saturday, I had the pleasure of running Coalescence: Desolation of Eristrat.  It was a one-day global event that was a tree campaign (3 rounds, 7 battleplans).  It followed up last year's Coalescence Global Narrative Event, in which the godbeast Eristrat was freed from its extra-dimensional prison and attuned to the will of Chaos.  You can find the event pack at NEON's blog if you're interested in playing the battleplans.

Coalescence: Malign Portents Retrospective

Tomorrow I'll be running Coalescence: the Desolation of Eristrat, so I thought I should probably get this post finished and post it.  It only happened in March... better late than never though.

Fate of Hammerstadt

Back in May I ran a four round Skirmish mini-campaign set in the ruins of Hammerstadt.  It went alright, but I think that there was a lot to be learned from it.

Battle Report: The Terror that Came to Efengie

Last weekend, Lady Rheatrivix summoned her Slaaneshi patrons from the 41st millennium to the Vale of Efengie.  The Eye of Terror opened up and for a while time and space cracked depositing soldiers from the future, and leaving the kingdoms of Efengie scrambling to keep up.

Colossal Red's Hoard

At the end of November, we had an Age of Sigmar Game Day themed around raiding the hoard of the enormous dragon "Colossal Red".  Colossal Red comes from a D&D miniatures Colossal Red Dragon that sat, unpurchased, on the shelf at the FLGS for years.  It was such a fixture of the store that when the store owner made the first map of Efengie, he added a mountainous lair for Colossal Red.  In various iterations of the campaign, one could steal treasure from the horde, risking Colossal Red's wrath (she would move out onto the campaign map as an army unto herself, destroying entire banners as she moved).  You could slay her whelps and forge magical Dragonhide armour as well, which was done often because it was awesome.

Battle Report: Gorechosen vs. Gor Coven

Ever since completing the Gorechosen battalion, I've been wanting to pit them, all by themselves, against an entire army.  So this weekend, I challenged my brother to bring an army of any size.

Battle Report: Culture Shock

Battleplan: Acquisition (from the Kharadron Overlords Battletome)
Match-up: Order vs. Legion of Azorgh

On the burning plains of Aqshy, Hazim the Blooded and his loyal Fireglaives approached an ancient Zharr Goroth ruin.  He and his Daemonsmith, Dray the Alchemist, had been searching the ruins of an old empire for weeks, seeking enchanted artefacts and other treasures.  So far, they had turned up only a few... an enchanted weapon that Hazim had claimed for himself, and a sacred duardin relic that was in Dray's possession.

As Hazim began to climb the steps into the ruin, he heard cries of battle behind him.  He looked back to their base camp, fortified on a nearby butte, just in time to see a trio of Judicators assault their gun-line.  They opened with a thunderous barrage of hammers, battering the artillerists, and then, with a valorous battle cry, charged the Dreadquake Mortar.

Big Trouble in Little Azyrheim

Yesterday, I ran a Hinterlands event.  It was set in the Free City of Reaper, which is a mercenary city in the Vale of Efengie.  As you can see on the map below, all types dwell there.  The story for this event was that one of the members of the Reaper King's council was assassinated, and by tradition, whoever could find his Letter of Marque and present it to the Reaper King would take his place on the council.

Battle Report: The Death of Gnarlok

This weekend, I played another narrative battle using my "Stuff of Legends" battleplan.  I played Nurgle, taking my new Epidemius counts-as, "Larvulous", for a spin.  My brother brought his Brayherds, as per usual (although this time, he was using these fun fan-made Brayherd allegiance abilities).

In this battle, we rolled a 6 for our Objective, so since we're both Chaos, we had an altar at the center of the battlefield that was damned terrain.  Nurgle's motivation was to scout the altar (move near it and roll well), while the Brayherds decided to attempt to Raze the altar, which is normally Destruction's motivation, but when you roll a 6, you can choose any motivation appropriate to your army, the faction tags aren't restrictions so much as guidelines (it's your story!).

We decided that Gorfax (the Beastlord on Chariot, also general) was still working towards his goal of becoming the Everbray, but this time, he needed to stop Larvulous from doing a nasty ritual that would spoil his chances.  Funny enough, Gorfax wasn't the one who made off with the Relics in the last battle (Rise of the Everbray).  Gnarlok the Flenser, lowly Wargor Battle Standard Bearer, is the Neville to Gorfax's Harry.  Gnarlok is the true chosen one, not that Gorfax needed to know that.

Battle Report: Rise of the Ever-bray

This Sunday I got to try out my home-made Narrative battle plan "Stuff of Legends" again.  I am starting to see a couple of ways I can improve it, which is good (also the point of 'playtesting' even when playtesting is just playing).

This time, we rolled a 2 for the Objectives, which means Relics.  Each player chooses one of their Hero models to carry a Relic which is the objective.  Relics can be dropped and picked up by Heroes, but if there's not hero to pick them up, they become stationary objectives.

Gorfax the Thrice-blooded was aiming to conquer the Relics (control them), while High King Itzach bar Itzach wished to consecrate them in the blood of his enemies.  The battle took place in the Vale of Efengie, under the shadow of Mount Koula, which turned out to be way more relevant than it sounds.

Battle Report: Resurrection at Dreadstone Blight

I have a second blog over at 'The Grand Alliance' forums.  I don't post there often, but I made a little 'battle report' like thing the other day when playtesting the Stuff of Legends battleplan.  Anyhow, if you're interested, here's a link to it.
